I have been doing sauna – or as we say back home, sauna bathing – for as long as I can remember.

When moving to New York from Finland decades ago, I had two concerns that I was worried about. First, I was used to having a sauna at least once a week, if not more often. Second, I have always been by the water and the sea is an element that I can’t live without. Today, it’s nice to look back: it took me about a month to find myself on Long Island Sound sailing, and about three months to find the first banya to feed my sauna addiction.

Having said that, the North American sauna tradition is different from the one back home in Finland. Finnish people were not vocal enough during the first wave of serious sauna here in the 60’s and 70’s. It was a fad that died away. Many bought saunas, but since they were not done right, North American interest in sauna slowly diminished and for the most part went away.

We are facing an uptick situation right now. Since the pandemic, many have installed saunas in their basements to supplement their gym experience. This, however, is not what Salmo is here to offer. Salmo has a real urge to create authentic sauna. Sam Wacha and I from the Upper Bench podcast had great fun meetings with Angus to talk about the desirable details of the real sauna experience. If you want to enjoy life to the fullest, play with water, enjoy the heat, take it easy, enjoy your favorite beverage, and be close to nature, you want to consider Salmo Craft.
